Educational Background

Dr. Johanna Choremis completed her medical degree at McGill University, on a Hugh Brock scholarship. She then specialized in ophthalmology at McGill University in Montreal. Dr. Choremis subsequently completed her fellowship training at Tufts University in Boston where she learned state-of-the-art techniques in the fields of cornea, external disease and refractive surgery.

Refractive Experience
Dr. Choremis has extensive experience in intraocular procedures. She has performed numerous research projects in the field of refractive surgery, and has made presentations at numerous prestigious ophthalmic conferences in the United States. Dr. Choremis is currently an assistant professor at McGill University, as well as at the University of Montreal, where she teaches ophthalmologists-in-training and medical students. She trains fellows as well.

Accomplishments and Awards
Dr. Choremis has been devoted to research throughout her career.  During medical school, she received four research grants from the Medical Research Council of Canada and the Pharmaceutical Medical Association of Canada. She was then invited to participate in research in Palo Alto, California, in an institute affiliated with Stanford University. During residency, she received 1st prize at the McGill Ophthalmology Research Day for her work in Diabetic retinopathy. Dr. Choremis has received grants from the E.A. Baker Foundation, FROUMS for research.  She is also involved in corneal transplantation and dry eye research and in addition to her research, she has also written several articles for peer-reviewed journals.

Most recently she holds the title of being the new cornea chief of the University of Montreal.
