Educational Background

Dr. Darvish-Zargar earned a Bachelor of Science degree with honours in microbiology and immunology at the University of British Columbia. He then completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) as well as his medical degree at McGill University. He also finished a residency in ophthalmology at McGill, where he was named Chief Resident.

Afterwards, Dr. Darvish-Zargar completed a cornea and external disease fellowship at the Cincinnati Eye Institute as well as a cornea and external disease observership at the Singapore National Eye Center.

Professional Experience

With over 10,000 procedures performed, Dr. Darvish-Zargar specializes in Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE), Corneal Cross-Linking (CXL), general ophthalmology, and the treatment of cataracts.

He's been a cornea specialist at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal, Quebec since 2015, where he was also the Medical Director for the Academic Cataract Center. He additionally works at the Lachine Hospital, also in Montreal.

Dr. Darvish-Zargar is currently an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology as well as a Director of the Cornea Fellowship at McGill University. He was previously the Residency Program Director of Ophthalmology, also at McGill.

Accomplishments and Awards

Dr.  Darvish-Zargar’s work has been featured in a variety of publications, including journals such as Cornea, the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology, and the International Journal of Tuberculosis and Lung. He’s currently a cornea section editor for the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology.

He's also been recognized through a number of awards. He’s won McGill University’s Frank Buller Award for Most Outstanding Clinical Instructor twice, and more recently, won the Frank Buller Award for Most Outstanding Surgical Instructor. He’s the only person to win both best surgical and clinical instructor in the same  year.

In addition, he won McGill Medicine’s Transition to Clinical Practice Teaching Award and the McGill Ophthalmology Leadership Award, and also earned the McGill Ophthalmology Best Oral Presentation twice.
